An explosion destroys 50 homes and injures 20 people in the Rivers neighbourhood

On Thursday nite, an explosion struck the Aleto community in the Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, destroying fifty houses and injuring twenty others.

The Nigeria Gas Company’s pipeline burst along Aleto’s Old Bori Road, causing the tragedy.

The explosion hit kiosks and a mechanic workshop where automobiles were parked, and many casualties were reportedly taken to hospitals.

Daniel Chuma, the leader of the Eleme Legislative Council, confirmed the event after visiting the scene. He said that although he had written to the corporation about the leak and petitioned the appropriate authorities, no real action had been taken to stop it.

“We requested a collaborative inquiry. What they did before departing is unknown to us. We were alerted about an explosion at the same Nigeria Gas Company pipeline today, which resulted in the destruction of more than fifty homes and vehicles and numerous fatalities. People have been taken to the hospital in a hurry, according to Chuma.

Dr. Fyneface Dumnamene, Executive Director of YEAC-Nigeria, urged the appropriate authorities to step in and assist the impacted citizens.
